Independence: Worth Celebrating!

Mark J. Smith, CFP®, CPA/PFS, CIMA®
July 2, 2019

As the 4th of July approaches, we are all reminded how important the concept of “independence” is. While we devote time to celebrations with family, friends and lots of fireworks, it’s also the perfect time to reflect on what being independent means in our lives.

For our firm, independence has a special meaning. M.J. Smith & Associates has been independent since our inception in 1983. Over the past 35 years, we have been able to provide objective, conflict-free advice to our clients in order to help them improve their financial lives. Because we are not employees of a big bank or institution, we are able to act in the best interest of our clients' specific needs as opposed to promoting proprietary products that may not be appropriate. We pride ourselves on providing transparent, thoughtful, holistic financial plans.

Our relationship with Raymond James allows us to have enough autonomy and self-governance to perform at our peak for our clients. We are fortunate to have teamed-up with Raymond James which allows our firm to follow the fiduciary standard - placing our clients’ best interests ahead of our own.

When it comes to doing what’s best for our clients, we are not beholden to anyone – except our clients themselves. Now that’s the kind of independence worth celebrating.

From the entire M.J. Smith team, we hope you have a wonderful 4th of July and enjoy great fireworks!
